When Michelangelo was asked how he sculpted the statue of David, he famously replied, “The sculpture was already complete within the marble block, before I started my work. It was already there. I just had to remove everything that wasn’t David.” This profound statement resonates deeply beyond the world of art, and it holds a timeless truth about health, wellness, and personal transformation.

In our quest for better health, it’s easy to focus on the things we must add to our lives—more exercise, healthier foods, new routines. But just as Michelangelo uncovered David by chipping away at the excess marble, achieving our health goals often requires us to remove the things that don’t serve us. It’s about what we don’t do as much as what we do do. Here’s how we can apply this sculptor’s wisdom to our health journey.

1. Chip Away at Unproductive Habits

Just as Michelangelo carefully chiseled away the marble, we must identify and eliminate unproductive habits that weigh us down. This might mean letting go of mindless snacking, late-night sugar cravings, or excessive screen time. Recognizing these habits is the first step.
